2024 July Masterclass – University of melbourne

We extend our sincere gratitude to the University of Melbourne for hosting our first combined Masterclass with Year 11s and 12s. During the event, students had the chance to hear about the experiences of current University of Melbourne students, sample a wide range of workshops from biochemistry to jazz improvisation, attend a course and student services expo, and take a tour of Newman College.

Skyline’s 2024 July Masterclass saw our Year 11 and 12 cohorts coming together to get a taste of the University of Melbourne. The day kicked off with a panel discussion where Skyliners heard from current University of Melbourne students about their degree pathways, university life, and plans for the future. Next students participated in two workshops of their own choice, giving them the opportunity to learn from university professors, lecturers and experts across a range of fields including biomedicine, commerce, law, fine arts, and music. In the afternoon, Year 11s could choose to take a tour of Newman College or attend a course and student services expo where they could spoke with University of Melbourne staff and student services to receive one-on-one advice and information about all the university’s study areas. Meanwhile, Year 12s attended an information session with Skyline Program Managers about all things VTAC and SEAS to equip those interested in pursuing tertiary education with crucial information and advice for the next few months. This was Skyline’s first Masterclass to bring together Year 11s and 12s on the same day – it is always a highlight of the day to see the students engage with their peers as well as our wonderful Skyline alumni mentors.
