International Women’s Day – Keely’s Journey

Today’s International Women’s Day spotlight features Keely, Class of 2024, whose journey reflects the power of ambition when matched with the right support.

A proud member of Skyline’s Class of 2024, Keely graduated as Dux with an outstanding ATAR of 92.95. Her dedication was recognised when she was awarded the prestigious Hansen Scholarship, one of just 25 students nationally to receive the scholarship, valued at more than $120,000.

“More than anything, Skyline lifted a huge burden from my shoulders and replaced it with hope, excitement, and a renewed belief in my future.”

Today, Keely is studying Computer Science at the University of Melbourne, exploring her passion for technology, robotics and the possibilities within software engineering.

Reflecting on her journey, Keely shared:

“As a first-generation immigrant, I always felt a strong responsibility to find stability and contribute to my family, but I was often uncertain about what my future might look like. I had a deep interest in STEM, particularly engineering, but growing up I was frequently told it was a male-dominated field and not something I should pursue as a girl. At times, I even considered giving up on my passion for a more practical career path that would allow me to provide for my family.

Skyline completely changed the trajectory of my life by giving me the confidence to pursue my passion for STEM. Through its masterclasses and extensive network of mentors, I was able to explore different pathways and gain invaluable insight into university courses and career opportunities. Skyline also eased the financial stress that weighed heavily on me in Years 11 and 12, allowing me to focus wholeheartedly on my studies.”

Keely’s story reflects what Skyline strives to do every day: support talented young women to believe in their potential and pursue the futures they deserve.
