Even though it has been a tough road coming out to their family, Joanna, a Year 11 Student from Dandenong High School, is proud of calling themselves as a non-binary person and “cherishes every queer part” of them. They applied to the Skyline Program in need of financial support after moving out of home and looks forward to every opportunity that it provides as well as meeting new people.
Through Joanna’s passions in music and creating clothes, it is their dream to give a voice to those in patriarchal and oppressed societies and tell their stories. Joanna is also proud of participating in a Mini-Fashion Show at the Drum Theatre in Dandenong where they made complete outfits, from the accessories to the garments.
Joanna is inspired by artists such as Sevdaliza and Alok Vaid-Menon, and politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who they believe are “symbols of creativity, resilience and true leadership”. In 2021, Joanna hopes to settle into their new place and start a YouTube channel where they can share their art journey and build a larger audience for their art.
