In 2014, Skyline’s Patron, The Hon Justice Lex Lasry, invited two students to speak at the Community Opening of the Legal Year.  Skyline has been honoured to be a part of this fabulous event ever since.  This year, Year 12 students Mary Zhang (Narre Warren P-12 College) and Andreas Zakhari (Braybrook Secondary College) represented Skyline.

The Hon Justice Bromberg facilitated the event which featured Judge Amanda Chambers (President of the Children’s Court), and a conversation led by Namila Benson with Uncle Jack Charles (Victorian of the Year 2016) and Archie Roach (Archie Roach Foundation).  Mary and Andreas were mentored in the development of their presentation by The Hon Justice Sally Brown, Justice of the Family Court of Australia, and the Skyline students presented together on the theme of being young Australians.  Mary and Andreas presented a passionate, inspirational and idealistic speech on the importance of “staying real”.

The audience of judges and other legal professionals responded warmly to the heartfelt sentiments expressed by Mary and Andreas who were articulate, visionary and optimistic.  Mary and Andreas appreciated the genuine interest shown in them by other participants and were thrilled for the opportunity to be involved.
